The golf course is a traditional layout with narrow fairways, small greens and thick rough, requiring the use of all fourteen clubs in a golfer's bag. The Country Club of Spartanburg has hosted such tournaments as the Carolinas PGA, Carolinas Open, Carolinas Amateur and the South Carolina Amateur Championships.

The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational

The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational is held in honor of the late Robert H. Chapman, Jr. Mr. Chapman, a longtime member of the Country Club of Spartanburg, was the only man to serve as president of both the South Carolina Golf Association & the Carolinas Golf Association. In his business life, Chapman was a local and national leader in the textile industry.

The BCJI tournament benefits the Spartanburg County Foundation and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation. To date, our supporters have donated $150,000 to scholarship recipients and $180,000 to the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. Previous participants include Lucas Glover, Bubba Watson, Sean O'Hair, Jonathan Byrd, Dustin Johnson and the 2011 FedEx Cup Champion, Bill Haas.
